About Big Sky, Montana (www.bigskyresort.com)

Big Sky is one of the finest ski resorts in the northwest and is an ideal resort for the entire family. Nestled between three major mountain ranges, Big Sky offers 3,600 acres of alpine skiing, 65 miles of groomed cross country ski trails, ice skating, sleigh rides and numerous fine restaurants. The resort’s tram, high speed quads, chairlifts and gondola can carry 20,000 skiers per hour; this ensures that you will not spend your time in lift lines. Also, 400-inch average snowfalls and extensive snow-making provide the best possible skiing conditions.

Big Sky boasts beginning, intermediate and advanced runs, with Lone Mountain topping off at 11,166 feet. You can ski freestyle through open meadows, master mogul fields and tour down perfectly groomed slopes that keep you wondering if they will ever end.

For those who do not ski or would like to improve their skills, Big Sky offers private and group lessons at all ability levels. If you bring children, lessons are available for those three years and above. You can leave children ages six months to 12 years with Handprints Daycare Center, (406) 995-3332, for a day full of games and activities. Reservations are strongly recommended if you wish to take advantage of Handprints Daycare.

For a change of pace, you can visit Yellowstone Park. At Yellowstone, just 40 miles from Big Sky, you can cross-country ski, snowmobile or travel by snow coach. Reservations are strongly recommended. Other attractions in the Big Sky area are cowboy bars and poker, which is legal in Montana.
