Department faculty members gathered at the beautiful Memorial Union for this year’s annual faculty dinner in early November. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate accomplishments from the past year and connect in person with colleagues throughout the department.
Chair Scott Reeder, MD, PhD highlighted the remarkable growth that the department is experiencing, both in personnel and advancements in the field. We welcomed 14 new faculty members in the past year and continue to forge new partnerships with industry leaders.
The newly created Thomas Grist, MD/GE HealthCare Foundation Distinguished Chair in Radiology Research professorship was announced. Dr. Grist shared that the foundation for this partnership began in his days as an undergraduate, when he was working at GE Medical Systems in Milwaukee. During Dr. Grist’s tenure as chair, UW–Madison established a strong relationship with GE HealthCare, resulting in incredible innovations in MRI and CT imaging over the years.
Dr. Reeder celebrated our new faculty members as well as those who have been with the department for many years. When he announced increasingly distant time periods, he asked faculty who joined during that time to stand and be recognized. After going through the decades, the last man standing was Scott Perlman, MD. Dr. Perlman was the only faculty member present that joined the department prior to 1990!
Reflecting on his first year as chair, Dr. Reeder extended his thanks for the support he received from faculty and staff members alike. He celebrated how the supportive and collaborative spirit extends throughout the department with colleagues helping each other as needed.
