Meet our 2025 resident matches

Posted on March 2025

On March 31, 2025, the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health joined medical programs across the nation to celebrate Match Day. The school held its annual event virtually and in-person at the Health Sciences learning Center.

This year, Match Day brought even more excitement to the UW Department of Radiology than in previous years. Last spring, the department received approval for a complement increase; adding three new spaces for a total of thirteen residents. The 2025 cohort is the first that reflects this increase.

The department’s 2025 Match class consists of eleven diagnostic radiology (DR) residents and two interventional radiology (IR) residents. Our newly matched residents join us from near and far, with current Badgers and international matches alike.

Ronnie AlRamahi, a current UW medical student and undergraduate alumnus of UW–Madison is ecstatic to continue his educational and career journey as a DR resident at the University Hospital and Clinics. Before he begins his residency, he will complete his internship with the UW–Madison Department of Surgery.

“After a busy interview season, I was reminded why I fell in love with radiology: it’s the perfect blend of innovation, procedures, critical thinking, and lifelong learning,” AlRamahi reflected. “UW–Madison embodies all of that and more with unmatched research, training, and mentorship opportunities. I’m thrilled to be joining such a nationally respected program!”

He won’t be the only one staying in Madison for his residency, fellow Badgers Annie Zlevor and Hassan Rizvi also matched with the department. Zlevor is a familiar face in the department; she won Best Electronic Presentation by a Medical Student at the 2024 annual Zachary Clark Radiology Research Symposium for her work on CT-guided percutaneous interventions.

For Rizvi, the impactful experiences he had during his time as a medical student played an important role in his decision.

I chose to come to UW–Madison for interventional radiology because I saw massive growth in the program during medical school. I also had amazing experiences with radiology residents and attendings here during clinical rotations and research projects. Furthermore, during my away rotations every program spoke very highly of UW–Madison’s radiology program; therefore, I saw no benefit in going anywhere else but here.”

Raphael Tadeu do Vale Souza’s choice was shaped in part by his first-hand experience with the exceptional research endeavors within the department. He’s currently a Research Scientist in Department Chair Scott Reeder, MD, PhD’s Liver Imaging Research Program (LIRP). “Over the past three years as a researcher in UW–Madison’s Radiology Department, I’ve had the chance to experience the incredible sense of camaraderie that defines the team here. Combined with outstanding teaching and leading-edge research, it made me genuinely excited to continue my journey here, now as a resident.”

Ibrahim Abdalla, Annika Anderson, Nathan Kauffman, Harsh Khilwani, Mark Lewis, Alex Thomas, Nathan Travers, Onur Tuncer, and Vishwaarth Vijayakumar round out the rest of the 2025 Match cohort.

The department will also welcome nuclear medicine resident Chamil Vidusha Madushan Jinadasa, who will begin his nuclear medicine residency this summer.
