Pallavi Tiwari, PhD, spoke to Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) for the article “UW–Madison researchers use AI to identify ‘sex specific’ risk factors in brain tumors” published January 1, 2025.
Dr. Tiwari and other fellow UW–Madison researchers developed an AI model to identify why glioblastoma tumors are more aggressive in men than women. Their research was published in the journal Science Advances and featured in an article from UW–Madison.
The researchers trained the AI model to recognize tumor-specific traits using data from 250 glioblastoma studies across various sites. This approach ensures the model learns patterns that are not limited to one location.
“That’s why we know that the model is robust, because it’s learning information from data from multiple different sides,” says Dr. Tiwari.
Dr. Tiwari thinks AI can improve medical decisions and patient treatment, by quickly analyzing health data to find important patterns. This will help doctors choose the best treatments for their patients.
