Biography

Dr. Kelcz received his bachelor of science from The Cooper Union in New York, NY, then received his doctor of philosophy in Physics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His thesis involved the theory and development of dual energy X-ray imaging. He then worked as a medical physicist at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center before deciding to obtain his medical degree. Dr. Kelcz received his medical degree from the University of Miami (PhD to MD program) and subsequently entered the Radiology Residency at the University of Minnesota. He returned to Wisconsin for fellowship training in Abdominal Imaging.

Dr. Kelcz is a member of the Abdominal Imaging Section (80%) and the Breast Imaging Section (20%). His chief research interests lie in MRI applications. Dr. Kelcz initiated the breast MRI clinical and research program at the University of Wisconsin, as well as the Prostate MRI clinical program. In cooperation with the Department of Urology, he was instrumental in bring prostate MR-US fusion biopsy to the University Hospital. His current research interests include:

Effects of Finasteride on interpretation of prostate MRI
Development of real time remotely accessed breast MR based biopsy and intervention ( with Marvel Medtech corporation, Middleton, WI)
Incorporation of diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) into abdominal and breast imaging
Use of PET-MRI to improve staging and diagnosis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma
