Implant failure is a substantial problem across all orthopedic sub-specialties. The ability to pre-operatively predict the integrity of implanted orthopedic devices would allow surgeons to change the operative strategy if a patient is at increased risk of screw pull-out, implant loosening, or subsidence. The proposed project aims to use CT to help elucidate radiographic parameters that may predict orthopedic implant failure in osteoporotic bone. Revision surgery is costly and morbid, therefore decreasing the incidence of these implant failures by pre-operatively identifying patients at risk may prevent post-operative complications and decrease the need for revision surgery. This will lower healthcare costs, improve outcomes, and thus improve lives.
