As 2015 begins, UW Radiology continues to impress, picking up three Distinguished Investigator Awards from
the Academy of Radiology Research (ARR).

The Distinguished Investigator award recognizes principal investigators for their accomplishments
in the field of medical imaging. UW Radiology 2014 recipients include Department Chair Thomas Grist, M.D., FACR,
Scott Reeder, M.D., Ph.D., and Patrick Turski, M.D., FACR. Previous UW Radiology recipients include
Elizabeth Burnside, M.D., MPH, M.S. and Perry Pickhardt, M.D. in 2012.

“The recipients of this award have made significant contributions to the field of imaging research and are
in the top 10% of radiology department faculty nationwide,” remarked Stanley Baum, M.D., the Chair of the
Academy’s Distinguished Investigator Workgroup.

Specific criteria for the award include at least 25 peer-reviewed research publications primarily authored
by the awardee, as well as 6 cumulative years serving as a primary investigator.
The ARR was founded in 1995 with the aim of raising awareness about the value of imaging research, and their
advocacy has contributed to the doubling of the federal government’s budget for radiology research since 2003.
