UW Radiology research chosen for RSNA press conference

Posted on January 2010

Kristie Guite, MD (UW radiology resident, class of 2014) presented the findings of the award winning presentation entitled “Excess radiation exposure in abdominal computed tomography: An audit of unindicated additional series” in an RSNA press conference on November 30th. Dr. Guite received the RSNA Trainee Research prize for the project which showed that at many facilities, abdominal CT scans are performed with excess phases that result in significant excess and unnecessary radiation. This source of excess radiation could be easily remedied with more attention to tailoring the examination to each individual patient. Drs. Fred Lee Jr., Louis Hinshaw, and Frank Ranallo coauthored the presentation.
