Where are you from?

Santa Cruz, California.

Why did you choose radiology?

I had originally thought that I would do surgery when I entered medical school clerkships. By a lucky coincidence I had the opportunity to do research with a radiologist at my M3 hospital site. I quickly appreciated the breadth of involvement radiology had in all fields of medicine. This meshed well with my eventual realization that I enjoyed all of my rotations and wanted to maintain a presence across many clinical fields.

What are your professional interests?

I have always had a strong desire to teach cemented by my time as an instructor during my gap year before medical school working as a teaching assistant as well as standardized test prep teacher (ACT, SAT, MCAT, GRE). Working in academics seemed the natural step for me and I was happy to find it was a perfect fit. I love teaching residents and fellows the nuance of radiology as well as the practical matters in delivering high-quality care without unnecessary testing.

Why did you choose to work at UW–Madison?

The people at UW–Madison truly care about the work they do and the culture they create. I had the good fortune to know some other faculty who could attest to the environment of academic rigor and education as a primary goal. I wanted to not only be a part of this supportive team but also help to further build the department and training program.

What are your hobbies?

I love playing sports and have recently started coaching my children’s soccer teams (fingers crossed). A passion of my wife and I is rehabilitating our environment with native plants and trees. We have put in over 1000 new trees in the past three years and created multiple native wildflower prairies. I will take any opportunity to be outdoors and love that no matter the season or weather people are always outside in Wisconsin, biking in summer, cross country skiing in winter, there is always something to do.
