Deepa Pai, MD, MHSA joined the Section of Pediatric Radiology as a clinical professor (CT) in May 2025.
Dr. Pai attended Kalamazoo College for her undergraduate degree and received a Master of Health Service Administration and her medical degree from the University of Michigan. After completing her residency as well as her pediatric and musculoskeletal radiology fellowships there, she worked as the chief of pediatric musculoskeletal imaging.
In 2014, she joined Children’s Minnesota where she practiced general pediatric radiology and served as the chief of the pediatric musculoskeletal imaging.

Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Why did you choose radiology?
Radiology has always been the most interesting field of medicine because we are privileged to problem-solve using sophisticated, advanced technology, which ultimately guides patient care. The most compelling cases in medicine have interesting imaging behind them.
What are your professional interests?
My professional interests including general pediatrics with a focus on pediatric musculoskeletal imaging and teaching. I’m also interested in AI applications within this field.
Why did you choose to work at UW–Madison?
I decided to work at Madison because it allows me to combine my passion for diagnostic radiology with teaching and continual learning.
I am drawn back to an academic environment where collaboration with colleagues and residents fosters innovation and clinical excellence. Being part of this community grants me the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the field, mentor the next generation of radiologist and stay engaged with cutting edge research, imaging technology and patient care.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies include weightlifting, learning longevity medicine, and spending time with my family, including my two boys ages 12 and 15.
