On Friday, March 20, 2026, fourth-year medical students nationwide eagerly took part in Match Day to discover where they will complete their residency training. The UW Department of Radiology will welcome thirteen of matches in July 2027 and they shared why they chose UW. In addition, Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director Allison Grayev, MD spoke at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health annual event.

Dr. Grayev shared inspiring insights with the event attendees as one of the faculty speakers. She recalled the anxiousness and excitement from her own Match Day 25 years ago; and reminded the medical students how far they’ve come in the past four years. Dr. Grayev emphasized that while not everyone will match with their number one choice, they will nevertheless do great things during their residency.
“I know you will succeed in any residency program, because you are built to succeed. You will build community in any residency program, because you built community here.”
She ended her remarks by predicting that in 25 years, they will be exactly where they are supposed to be.
This year’s cohort consists of eleven diagnostic radiology (DR) matches and two interventional radiology (IR) matches who will begin their residency in July 2027. However, Richard Chiu and Dima Kenj Halabi will soon become familiar faces at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics when they complete their internal medicine internship year here.
Another familiar face will be Kevan Ip, who will complete his surgical internship. Members of the Section of Interventional Radiology might already recognize him from when he completed an away rotation with them. The away rotation played a big part in Ip’s decision to match with the department. “Everyone I met was approachable, welcoming, and exceptional at teaching. The faculty are not only leaders in radiology but also clearly invested in teaching and promoting the growth of residents. Everything adds up to make it the ideal place to support my journey to train and develop into an outstanding IR physician.”
The department’s culture is a key reason Abhinav Patel decided to match at UW. “UW–Madison was my first choice because of its rigorous clinical training, broad exposure, and a genuinely supportive environment. The department is deeply committed to education, and the faculty are equally invested in helping residents grow into excellent radiologists. I am beyond excited to continue my training here, and I am thrilled to be staying in Madison!”
Eman Sharif looks forward to the breadth of training covered in the residency program, and opportunities like the Global Health Elective. “I am truly excited to have matched at UW–Madison because it so naturally embodies the strengths of a world-class, prestigious program while maintaining a culture that is lively, positive, and welcoming.” Sharif shared. “Throughout my interview trail, UW stood out as a place where residents feel genuinely engaged rather than simply ‘clocking in and out.’ I also love that the program fully embraces every facet of diagnostic radiology, both within and beyond the reading room, like procedural training and global health opportunities.”
Richard Roden is equally excited to explore the amazing city of Madison as he is to dive into his training. “I loved the research and mentorship opportunities available at Wisconsin. The faculty all seemed very invested in their residents during the interview and loved the outdoor activities available in and around Madison.”
