Dania Daye, MD, PhD being interviewed by Erik Ridley during the ISMRM annual meeting.

As part of International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) annual meeting coverage, AuntMinnie.com filmed an interview with Dania Daye, MD, PhD in May 2025.

Interviewer Erik Ridley asked Dr. Daye for her insight on the challenges of translating AI technology into clinical practice. Dr. Daye identified issues including bias, how models perform in different populations, as well as integration into current systems.

“There are still systems today that are not equipped with the right workflow and infrastructure to allow us to implement of a lot of [AI algorithms] in clinical practice,” Dr. Daye explained.

She also discussed the importance of having a robust governance structure with end users involved in the process of assessing algorithms. For specific steps on building the governance, she referenced the 2022 publication she co-authored, “Implementation of Clinical Artificial Intelligence in Radiology: Who Decides and How?”

Mr. Ridley asked about Dr. Daye’s new role as director of the Center for High Value Imaging at the University of Wisconsin Department of Radiology. Dr. Daye explained that one of the center’s focuses was evaluating how AI algorithms could improve operational efficiencies and patient outcomes.
