The Molecular Imaging and Nanotechnology Laboratory (http://mi.wisc.edu/) shone again at this year’s Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) Annual Meeting in Vancouver, Canada from June 8-12, 2013.

This is the 3rd year that the Molecular Imaging and Nanotechnology laboratory submitted abstracts to the SNMMI annual meeting. Among the 8 abstracts submitted this year, 7 were selected as oral presentations. Three of these were presented by Yin Zhang and 2 were presented by Hao Hong.

Dr. Hao Hong, research associate, and Yin Zhang, graduate student, each received a Travel Award to attend the conference. The SNMMI annual meeting typically has approximately 5,000 attendees and approximately 2,000 submitted abstracts, and only a total of about 20 Travel Awards are given each year.

Dr. Hao Hong also received the Alavi-Mandell Award from SNMMI for his 2012 publication in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine (JNM), the #1 journal of the field. Among all the 2012 papers in JNM, only about 10 awards were given in this category.

Dr. Hakan Orbay was selected to compete in the Cardiovascular Council Young Investigator Award Symposium, and finished 3rd Place in the preclinical abstract category. Only the top scored abstracts based on 5 independent reviewers were chosen to compete in the symposium.

In addition, Dr. Weibo Cai was invited to give a 50-minute Categorical Seminar on “Labeling Peptide/Proteins with Radiometals”, which was well-attended with a full room of attendees.

The Cai group has won multiple awards at the SNMMI meeting every year: 2 for 2011, 4 for 2012, and 4 for 2013.
