Medical Student Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Resident: Kevin McDonald, MD

Kevin McDonald, MD joined the Sections of Cardiovascular Imaging and Thoracic Imaging in 2026.

Dr. McDonald attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati before completing his intern year, residency, and cardiothoracic imaging fellowship at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. During his residency, he was awarded the Medical Student Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Resident.

Why did you choose radiology? 

I chose radiology because it combines problem-solving with meaningful clinical impact, especially through close collaboration with referring teams.

What are your professional interests? 

Cardiothoracic imaging and education with a focus on practical teaching tools for residents and fellows.

Why did you choose to work at UW–Madison? 

I was drawn to UW–Madison for the strong clinical practice, supportive colleagues, and commitment to education.

What are your hobbies? 

Spending time with my family, woodworking and small DIY projects, cooking, and staying active.
