Associate Professor Prashant Nagpal, MD, FSCCT recently joined the Department of Radiology as the Chief of Cardiovascular Imaging. After working at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Dr. Nagpal is excited to be joining the faculty at UW. Learn more about him below.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am originally from India but have spent my US life in Boston and Iowa City. Having spent most of my time in this part of the country, I like to call the Midwest my home.
Q: Where did you attend Medical School?
A: University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, India.
Q: Why did you choose Radiology?
A: I realized very early in Medicine that Radiology is the key to making a majority of the diagnosis or arriving at next steps in patient management. And that is where I wanted to be. The technical advances in the field of cardiovascular imaging and their utilization for patient management excites me the most and drew me to the specialty.
Q: What is your specialty?
A: Cardiovascular and Thoracic Imaging.
Q: What are your career interests and goals?
A: To learn, improve and be a better version of myself – professionally and personally. I also hope to have a positive impact in the life of others.
Q: Why did you choose UW/What are you excited about at UW?
A: UW is an exciting place to work as it has great history of technical innovations and has physicians you feel proud to call your colleagues. There are resources and a system in place to pursue a path of clinical excellence and learning.
Q: What are your hobbies?
I love spending time with my family, play table-tennis (ping-pong), and I like to learn new technical / software skills like medical illustrations, video-making and editing.
