Where are you from?
Brookfield, WI
Why did you choose radiology?
I chose radiology because I most enjoyed the diagnostic challenges in medicine and quickly realized that the field of radiology plays an extremely significant role in navigating these clinical challenges with the ultimate goal of delivering high-quality patient care.
Radiology not only provided the chance to be engaged in the diagnostic process, but also an opportunity to perform procedures and maintain interactions with patients that are often the cornerstone of a patient’s experience with the healthcare system. The melding of these two aspects of the clinical work of radiology in harmony with the technological aspects of radiology cemented my decision to pursue a career within the field.
What are your career interests and goals?
I believe that one of the pillars of being a physician is the responsibility of training the next generation of providers and with this belief I have fostered a passion for medical education. This was a major contributing factor in my decision to pursue a career in academics. I hope to stay within roles that allow me to engage trainees at various points in their careers, teaching, guiding, and helping them navigate their formative years of medical training.
What are your professional interests?
I am interested in resident/fellow level medical education and trying to better understand methods by which we can most effectively (and efficiently) teach trainees the skills they need to prosper in their careers and provide high quality patient care.
Why did you choose to work at UW–Madison?
The reputation of the Department of Radiology at UW–Madison speaks for itself, but it really was the amazing people at UW that played a significant role in my decision to not only want to come to UW for fellowship, but also to stay on as faculty. It is not often you find such down-to-earth people who are superstars in their fields of expertise. To be able to be a part of that was an opportunity I could not pass up.
What are your hobbies?
In my free time, I love spending time with my wife, Lindsey, and our miniature schnauzer, Greta. Since moving back to Wisconsin, I have rekindled my love of golf after a 15-year hiatus, so there is plenty of room for improvement to keep me busy working on my game. I come from a Sicilian family, so cooking has always been something I really enjoy doing. More recently I have started to try my hand at the world of sourdough, which has proven to be quite the challenge!
