Biography

Born and raised in Vancouver Canada, Dr. Meimetis received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Simon Fraser University and his Ph.D in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia. His research focused on the total synthesis and structure activity relationship studies of marine and terrestrial based pharmacologically active compounds targeting the PI3K pathway, androgen receptor and cathepsin K. Dr. Meimetis then pursued postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School, where he developed a series of fluorogenic imaging probes and bimodal 89Zr-based PET tracers for cancer imaging. He then joined the biotechnology sector as a Senior Scientist working on preclinical discovery programs to develop new linker-payloads for antibody-drug conjugates treating cancer. Subsequently, Dr. Meimetis led Chronus Pharmaceuticals as Chief Executive Officer, advancing PET tracers for infectious diseases. Dr. Meimetis then joined the Department of Radiology at Stony Brook University as a Research Assistant Professor followed by promotion to tenure track Assistant Professor.
Recently, he joined the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he continues his pursuit of developing therapies for difficult to treat cancers. Special emphasis is placed on better addressing tumor heterogeneity and immunosuppression, common in many late stage-cancers. This is achieved by inventing new immunostimulatory radiopharmaceuticals and antibody-drug conjugates.
