Biography

Dr. Prashant Nagpal, MD FSCCT is joining as an Associate Professor (CHS) of Radiology and the Section Chief of Cardiovascular Imaging. Dr. Nagpal completed medical school and Radiology residency at the University of Delhi, India. Upon moving to the US, he completed Radiology residency at the University of Iowa, and Cardiovascular Imaging fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston MA. After completing his training, he worked at the University of Iowa as an Assistant Professor, where he successfully led the Cardiac imaging program. His areas of interest include aortic imaging, imaging of structural heart disease, and cardiac MR. Additionally, Dr. Nagpal has interests in imaging protocol optimization, medical education, and improving resident participation in research. Dr. Nagpal serves on the education and guideline Committee of the Society of Cardiovascular CT (SCCT) and on the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Expert Panel for vascular imaging. He was selected by the SCCT for the Future Leaders Program (2021) in recognition of his contributions to the field of cardiovascular CT. Dr. Nagpal has authored or co-authored over 50 articles in radiology, as well as international guideline papers on cardiac CT training and cardiac testing for individuals in high-risk occupations. He has authored multiple book chapters on cardiovascular and lung imaging. Dr. Nagpal has received various teaching awards, research awards, and grants. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the European Heart Journal, Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, and Journal of Cardiovascular CT. He also regularly reviews manuscripts for various Radiology and Cardiology journals. His personal interests include spending time with his family, photography, and playing table tennis.
