Biography
Anu Brixey, MD grew up in Sacramento, CA. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine in 2005. Dr. Brixey then completed an internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital followed by a three-year pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2011.
She relocated to Portland, Oregon and practiced as a pulmonary and critical care attending for four years. During this time, Dr. Brixey fell in love with chest radiology and decided to retrain as a radiologist. She completed her diagnostic radiology residency and cardiothoracic imaging fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in 2019, after which she stayed on as faculty for six years. During her latter three years, Dr. Brixey primarily worked at the Portland VA affiliated with OHSU where she created a cardiac imaging program and served as the chief of cardiac imaging and chief of ultrasound at the VA. Given her love for teaching and trainee education, Dr. Brixey also served as the VA site director for the OHSU radiology residency program.
Dr. Brixey has received several honors and awards for her work. Mostly notably, she accepted the 2020 OHSU Bronze CME Educator Award for her contributions to the continuing education of health professionals. In 2021, she was awarded the OHSU Department of Radiology Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.
From a service point of view, to improve gender disparities in radiology Dr. Brixey co-founded the Women in Radiology Group at OHSU in 2020 and served as chair until 2022. During that time, she created a faculty and trainee development program which led to objectively improved faculty satisfaction, the results of which were published in Academic Radiology.
Dr. Brixey joined the Section of Thoracic Imaging as an associate professor in 2025. Her professional interests include interstitial lung disease, pulmonary embolism, clinical-radiologic correlation, and trainee education.
