Dr. Elizabeth Sadowski received the 2014 ARRS Global Partner Society International Speaker Award and presented at the Japan Radiologic Society 2014 meeting in Yokohama, Japan.

Dr. Sadowski’s talk, entitled “MRI of Cervical Cancer: Update and Future Directions” highlighted the changes in the 2009 FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) classification for cervical cancer, which promotes the use of MRI for verifying clinical stage and for treatment planning. Dr. Sadowski also highlighted innovative work in functional MRI of cervical cancer, as well as fMRI’s current and future guidance of adaptive treatment of more advanced cervical cancer, the number one cause of death in women less than 35 years of age.

Treatment failure and metastasis are highly associated with tumor hypoxia, which make Dr. Jessica Robbins’ work on MRI BOLD methods important in the study of cervical cancer treatment efficacy. In collaboration with Dr. Kristen Bradley from Radiation Oncology, our group is one of two groups worldwide at the forefront of this novel imaging technique in the progressive treatment of advanced cervical cancer.
