The ability of conventional MRI to detect complications near metallic prostheses is limited due to magnetic field inhomogeneities introduced by metal. These inhomogeneities lead to severe geometric distortion and signal loss in MR images. To address these challenges, our group is developing a Spectrally-Resolved Fully-Phase-Encoded (SR-FPE) method for distortion-free MRI in the presence of metal. In this study, the clinical feasibility of SR-FPE will be evaluated through comparisons of SR-FPE with existing MRI methods in patients with metallic knee and hip prostheses.
