Lipoma On Virtual Colonoscopy

Show

History: 53 yo male who presents for routine colorectal cancer screening with VC.
Solution: This case is a good example of the fact that not everything that looks like a polyp is a true mucosal polyp. The lesion seen is certainly polypoid and it is a real lesion, but the translucency shows that it is green throughout, consistent with fat and this is confirmed on the cross-sectional images and the overall imaging findings are consistent with a lipoma. If sent to OC, this would be seen as a soft, submucosal mass that is yellowish in color, but if you can make this diagnosis at the time of the VC, then OC can be avoided.
