Autoimmune Pancreatitis

Show

History: 62 yo male with weight loss
Solution: Autoimmune pancreatitis is a relatively recently described pathology that is a result of autoimmune attack of the pancreas, resulting in pancreatitis and often obstructive jaundice. This often affects men in the 5th and 6th decade and responds well to a course of corticosteroids, with relatively frequent relapses. The typical imaging pattern is enlargement of the gland with a featureless surface and a low density capsule like rim on CT and diffuse decreased echogenicity on US. If duct imaging is performed, there will be diffuse narrowing.
