Peyronie's Disease On CT

Show

History: 48 yo male with flank pain.
Solution: Peyronie’s disease is characterized by a plaque that forms within the penis. The plaque, which is a flat plate of scar tissue that can become calcified, develops most frequently on the dorsal side of the penis within the tunica albuginea. The plaque begins as a localized inflammation and develops into a hardened scar. In severe cases, the hardened plaque reduces flexibility, causing pain and forcing the penis to bend or arc during erection. It is a benign process, but can be associated with problematic issues. The most effective treatments are surgical. This patient had a known history of Peyronie's disease. It is uncommon to see this disease on CT, but note that the calcification is not in the location of the urethra, so this is not a urethral calcification or foreign body.
