History: 33 yo female with post-partum bleeding
Solution: Choriocarcinoma
Gestational choriocarcinoma represents approximately 5% of gestational trophoblastic disease. It can be preceded by a normal pregnancy, although it is more frequently associated with a hydatidiform mole, or a spontaneous abortion. It is rarely preceded by an ectopic pregnancy. The primary symptom is vaginal bleeding and continued elevation of the beta HCG. The most common finding on imaging is a heterogeneous mass enlarging the uterus. It can metastasize, but has a good prognosis even in the setting of metastases. The treatment is surgery and chemotherapy.
