UW Department of Radiology’s Dr. Perry Pickhardt is currently being featured in a HealthImaging.com top story reviewing results from a groundbreaking study comparing CT colonography (CTC) to colonoscopy.
The article discusses the study, which was co-authored by Dr. Pickhardt and published in the May issue of Radiology. The paper, titled “Sensitivity of CT colonography and colonoscopy for the detection of colorectal cancer: systematic review and meta-analysis,” revealed that CTC yields comparable sensitivity to colonoscopy. Dr. Pickhardt and his co-authors suggest that this may mean that CTC might be more suitable than traditional colonoscopies for initial investigations of suspected colorectal cancer.
In October, this same paper was awarded the Joseph T. Ferrucci Award for best paper at the 11th International Virtual Colonoscopy Symposium.
