Matthew Niemeyer, MD joined the Interventional Radiology section in 2024 as an associate professor (CHS).
He obtained his medical degree from University of Michigan Medical School and travelled to St. Louis for his residency at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology. Dr. Niemeyer returned to the Midwest to complete his Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Where are you from?
I grew up in St. Louis, MO, although spent 10 years in Ann Arbor for undergrad and med school, so it feels like my second home.
Why did you choose radiology?
I love being able to interpret and utilize advanced imaging for minimally invasive procedures, thus helping patients to avoid surgery.
What are your career interests and goals?
My practice has focused on caring for patients with cancer, and those with complications from liver disease.
What are your professional interests?
I am interested in exploring new ways to treat cancer and other diseases through clinical collaboration and translational research.

What are your hobbies?
Spending time with my wife and family, hiking, biking, and spending time outdoors.
