Just Dip It! Radiology Raises Funds For Homeless Families By Snacking

Posted on January 2014

UW Radiology is constantly thinking of unique ways to give back to the community, and in December, this meant sampling dips of every kind and flavor to raise funds for a good cause.

In October, Radiology made it a goal to brighten the holidays for Madison families undergoing economic hardship or homelessness by “adopting” three families, and providing them with food, toiletries, and holiday decorations and gifts.

A successful clothing sale raised over $1,200 for area families in need, but to raise even more funds, the department hosted its 3rd annual “Just Dip It” party fundraiser and tapped into Radiology faculty and staff’s affinity for snacking.

For only $3, faculty and staff received an all-you-can-taste buffet of homemade dips. The wide array of dips ranged from beer cheese to cookie dough, with an assortment of pretzels, chips, fruits and veggies to accompany them.

The Just Dip It event raised a further $216 for Radiology’s Adopt-A-Family program, which helped to bring even more holiday cheer to needy families in the Madison area.

Radiology Manager Peter Wasmund won the friendly contest, with his delicious buffalo chicken dip. Information Assistant Wendy Dyson came in a very close second with her spicy black bean dip. Selected recipes were collected in a Just Dip It recipe booklet.
