Dr. Charles Mistretta will receive the 2010 MIT Technology Achievement Award sponsored by the MIT Club of Wisconsin. Dr. Mistretta’s work has concentrated in the area of angiography beginning in the late 1970s with the development of Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA). Since then most of his research has been concentrated on highly accelerated MRI acquisition and reconstruction methods such as VIPR and HYPR in collaboration with Dr. Grist, Dr. Turski, and numerous Medical Physics colleagues. HYPR has been applied in a wide range of medical imaging applications including MRI, PET (Drs. Weichert, Christian and Holden), CT (Drs. Rowley and Chen), and Photoacoustic Tomography. Most recently, Dr. Mistretta and Charlie Strother have extended DSA by adding an extra spatial dimension to the time resolved image series.
