The Cai Group (http://mi.wisc.edu) was recently co-awarded two pilot grants. One was from the UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) for the proposal entitled “Targeting tumor vasculature with biodegradable zinc oxide nanowires.” The total amount of the award is $50,000, which represents co-funding support from UW ICTR and the UW Carbone Cancer Center. The co-investigator in this grant is Dr. Xudong Wang, Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering.
A second $50,000 grant was awarded by the UW-Madison/UW-Milwaukee Intercampus Research Incentive Grants Program for a proposal entitled “Multifunctional Gold Nanorods for Targeted Cancer Theranostics.” The PI is Dr. Shaoqin (Sarah) Gong, Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering and the Wisconsin Institutes of Discovery. The two co-PIs are Dr. Cai and Dr. Douglas Steeber, Professor of Biological Sciences at UW-Milwaukee.
The UW-Madison/UW-Milwaukee Intercampus Research Incentive Grants Program, launched in January 2010, was established by UW-Madison Chancellor Biddy Martin and UW-Milwaukee Chancellor Carlos E. Santiago to foster ties between UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee by supporting research projects and scholarship undertaken jointly between the two institutions.
