Biography

Brian F. Mullan, MD, MMEd, MS, FACR, FCCP, joined the faculty in the fall of 2020. He came from the University of Iowa, where over 25 years, he served as Director of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Imaging, Director of CT and General Radiography, Director of the Advanced Imaging and Analytic Laboratory, and Clinical Director of PACS, among other positions. His academic passion is medical education. At the University of Iowa, he served as Director of Medical Student Education (9 years) and Vice-Chair for Education for the Department of Radiology (11years), Chair of the Education Council for the Carver College of Medicine (16 years). Nationally he served for 9 years on the Education Committee for RSNA and is currently working with RSNA to establish their first Global Learning Center at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. At the University of Iowa, he received multiple teaching awards including the Collegiate Teaching Award, the Holloway Award for Research in Health Science Education, 7 Teacher of the Year Awards and was awarded the Myers Family Professor in Medical Education. He has and continues to enthusiastically mentor many learners and faculty. His current interests include optimizing distance learning, taking education lessons learning during the COVID pandemic and applying them to the post-pandemic world, and applying distance learning lessons to aid under resourced countries. His personal interests include managing his family’s tree farm, cooking, and concocting things in his basement workshop.
