AUR meeting features faculty presentations, new name, and inauguration of Allison Grayev as AMSER president

Posted on April 2024

Faculty and education team members from the UW Department of Radiology traveled to Boston for the annual Association of University Radiologists (AUR) meeting in April. Faculty shared insights on educating future radiologists and celebrated Allison Grayev, MD’s inauguration as president of the Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology (AMSER)

The meeting offered educators the opportunity to collaborate and address challenges in educational radiology at all levels of training and see unique solutions that can be adapted into programs internationally. It was the last meeting before AUR was officially renamed the Association of Academic Radiology (AAR) to better represent the society’s mission.

Allison Grayev, MD was inducted as AMSER President at the 2024 AUR Conference.

At a reception on Wednesday, Dr. Grayev was inducted as the president of AMSER, an affinity group of the AAR. Dr. Grayev has served as a chair on the AMSER membership committee since 2017 and as vice president and program chair this past year.

During her term, Dr. Grayev hopes to lead the creation of a multi-society white paper emphasizing the importance of radiology in all medical school curricula. Her insight into how radiology can successfully be incorporated early in the medical school timeline comes from her involvement in the UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s ForWard Curriculum, where she created a new preclinical radiology curriculum.

“My goal is to show medical students that anyone can be a radiologist – if you can’t see it, you can’t be it. I find it to be particularly rewarding when more diverse applicants become interested in the field.”

Through multiple talks, Dr. Grayev shared her insight on medical student curriculum development, near-peer mentoring, evaluation, and optimizing academic grant applications.  Other presenters from the department included Edward Lawrence, MD, PhD; Matthew Lee, MD; Anand Narayan, MD, PhD; Scott Reeder, MD, PhD; Jessica Robbins, MD; Andrew Ross, MD; Lonie Salkowski, MD, PhD; and Jonathan Swanson, MD, MBA. Medical students also participated in the conference through both presentations and poster exhibits.

Faculty and education team members enjoyed the great seafood Boston had to offer.
