The UW Department of Radiology would like to congratulate to the UW Health Bone Mineral Density (BMD) team for their implementation of a standardized procedure for BMD scans.
Beginning as a project in fall 2013, patients across the UW Health System can be assured that BMD scans will be performed identically at every location, demonstrating an attention to detail that represents UW Radiology’s commitment to patient satisfaction.
A BMD scan measures the density of calcium and other minerals within the bone using either an X-Ray or a CT scan. BMD scans indicate the strength of bones, and are most commonly administered to individuals at risk for osteoporosis.
