Dr. Prabhakaran Appears on Popular Irish Radio Show to Discuss fMRI of Vegetative Patients

Posted on February 2010

Dr. Vivek Prabhakaran was interviewed about research on fMRI of the vegetative state on Ireland’s popular Shaun Doherty Show on Highland Radio on Friday, February 5, 2010. There have been a recent number of research studies that have used fMRI to investigate patients in purported vegetative and minimally conscious states and have provided evidence that these patients may well show brain activity similar to healthy individuals in certain tasks. These studies have sparked quite a debate with implications for diagnosis, prognosis, and management of this patient population, as well as neuroethical dilemmas. Dr. Beverly Aagaard-Kienitz has also appeared on this show in the past when she was interviewed about cerebral aneurysms.
