UW Radiology continues to provide leaders in the field of breast imaging, with two of our faculty selected to serve with the newly launched Breast Cancer Screening Leadership Group (BCSLG) being developed by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Professor Wendy DeMartini, M.D., and Assistant Professor Amy Fowler, M.D., Ph.D., will serve on the ACR-backed board to help develop the next generation of breast imagers.

The BCSLG seeks to educate radiologists and technicians on the political and scientific history, publications, data, and strategies necessary to preserve screening for breast cancer, according to DeMartini. This highly educational and service-based program is being developed by the ACR’s Commission on Breast Imaging (CBI).

The over-arching goal of the CBI is to represent breast imaging issues in the media, as well as provide talking points for government relations and legislation related to breast imaging, according to the ACR. Drs. DeMartini and Fowler are privileged to participate in this new program and to contribute to efforts to maintain evidence-based screening.
