There’s a long list of mundane objects that reveal fascinating interiors when scanned using CT or MRI. An image of a toy wind-up car exposes the spring mechanism that drives it, and scan of a Barbie doll uncovers the plastic skull inside her head.

Is it surprising that rocks are on that list as well?

An exciting collaboration between WIMR and the UW Geology Museum is taking a look inside
a sandstone slab to discern the fossils within. Featuring Director of the UW CT Lab and
Professor of Radiology and Medical Physics Guang-Hong Chen, Ph.D., this video showcases
just one of the many non-medical uses of imaging technology.
