Entrance to RSNA ’14, the largest medical meeting in the world.

As I review this edition of The Inside View, I am taken by the great dedication of our staff and faculty to their work. Each and every department member has contributed to the close-knit community and fertile academic atmosphere, and for that I am grateful. From the cutting-edge research undertaken at WIMR, to the care we provide at UW Health Breast Centers, I am proud of the high standard to which this department holds itself.

In this edition of our quarterly, our devotion to clinical, academic, and administrative excellence is more visible than ever. Associate Professor Mark Schiebler, M.D. was honored by the Department of Medicine (DOM) for his pulmonary course and assistance to DOM colleagues, and UW received two fresh accreditations from the American College of Radiology. Department Administrator, Margaret Birrenkott, MBA, garnered a lifetime achievement award from AAARAD, and UW Radiology has continued to develop imaging protocols for GE Healthcare. This blend of personal and team-based achievements is indicative of the drive of our members, as well as our ability to collaborate and discover together.

This past fall, we were also able to see the success of our department at the 100th annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. UW Radiology contributed more than 100 presentations, winning more than 20 awards. Following great preparation by our faculty and staff, we represented UW with hot topic sessions, hands-on training, moderation, presentation, and much more. Throughout the week-long conference, I saw our faculty engaged and excited about their work and the work of their peers.

I thank everyone involved for our success, and I am truly proud to witness the achievements of all in this department. To all our members and their families, I bid you a happy New Year and wish you peace in the coming year.
