RSNA Seed Grant Funds UW SMPH-China Project

A collaborative project between the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UW SMPH) Department of Radiology and Shenzhen Children’s Hospital in China was awarded a 1-year RSNA seed grant of $40,000.

The project examines language reorganization and functional and structural connectivity patterns in children with Benign Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (BECTS). The data will be collected primarily at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital with expertise and data-analyses being provided by UW SMPH.Dr. Hongwu Zheng, a visiting radiologist from China at UW SMPH, is the principal investigator of the project and will be co-mentored by Vivek Prabhakaran, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor in radiology, and Feiqiu Wen, M.D., Ph.D., professor of neurology, vice president of Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, and head of research and education. Co-investigators in the project at UW SMPH include Veena Nair, Ph.D., a research associate in Dr. Prabhakaran’s neuroimaging lab; Bruce Hermann, Ph.D., professor in neurology; David Hsu, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor in neurology; and Beth Meyerand, Ph.D., chair of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and professor in BME and medical physics. Co-investigators in the project at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, China, include Hu Yan, M.D., Yungen Gan, M.D., and Jiang Xiang, Liao, M.D., Ph.D.
