UW Radiology faculty present at PET/MRI workshop offered by ISMRM and SNMMI

Posted on April 2024

UW Department of Radiology’s faculty played pivotal roles in the PET/MRI workshop hosted in collaboration with the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and the Society of Nuclear Medicine in Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) in October 2023.

Alan McMillan, PhD presented at and co-chaired the workshop, which was for clinicians, researchers, staff, technologists and students working on PET/MRI. Dr. McMillan was joined by colleagues Michael Veronesi, MD, PhD and Sandip Biswal, MD, who also presented. Samuel Hurley, PhD moderated sessions.

The workshop explored both technical advancements and the clinical applications of PET/MRI, highlighting its vital role in enhancing our understanding of diseases from neurodegeneration to cancer.

The technology, which combines images from a positron emission tomography (PET) scan and a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan, provides highly detailed imaging of the body’s interior. Having these high-quality images allows for more precise and personalized patient care.

More details about the workshop, including recordings of oral presentations, are available on the ISMRM website.
