UW Radiology Gives Back

Posted on July 2015

Every spring, UW Radiology’s employee appreciation committee, Radiology RockStars, organizes a charity clothing sale. The sale includes UW Radiology-emblazoned attire like jackets and pullovers, and non-clothing items such as lunchboxes.

This year, the beneficiary is Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS), a Madison-based organization working to ensure the safety and well-being of domestic violence survivors and families. The RockStars chose this charity because technologists and staff have been profoundly affected by abuse scenarios in the emergency room, and expressed a desire to make a difference.

The group offers a wide array of crisis intervention and community education/prevention programs, including a 24-hour help line, legal advocacy, support groups, and the only domestic violence shelter for all of Dane County. The group moved to a larger, more public building in August 2014, which more than doubled the shelter capacity.

A percentage of each sale was donated to DAIS, for a total of $720. This donation could cover the costs of food for 35 shelter residents for one week, or allow the group to purchase three years of art supplies for children staying at the shelter.

DAIS accepts monetary donations of any size, as well as personal hygiene items and women’s or children’s clothing. Please contact Elizabeth Klaus, Donations Coordinator (elizabethk@abuseintervention.org ), with any questions about donating.

UW Radiology and the Radiology RockStars are proud to partner with DAIS, and look forward to our next opportunity to give back to the community.
