UWHealth Breast Imaging Completes Inspections

Posted on January 2010

Congratulations to the UWHC and UWMF Breast Imaging programs on completing their 2009 mammography accreditation reviews from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Food and Drug Administration (FDA), meeting all requirements.

Each of the seven Breast Imaging facilities undergoes an annual inspection by the FDA. This is required by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), established in 1994 by the United States Congress. The accreditation program focuses on six major areas including facility equipment performance, technologist quality control, medical physicist survey, technologist and radiologist personal qualification, medical reports and outcome audits. Both UWHealth Breast Imaging teams received compliments from the FDA inspector on their exceptional documentation and organization of Quality Control Manuals and books.

Additionally, both UWHealth Breast Imaging programs have earned the status of a “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.” They are fully accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in: Mammography, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, and Breast Ultrasound, including the Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy module.

UWHealth Breast Imaging offers a complete range of services including state-of-the-art mammography, ultrasound and breast biopsy. We are extremely proud of the dedication, exceptional focus on quality and talented UWHealth Breast Imaging professionals.
