Biography
Dr. Maria Daniela Martin is an associate professor of radiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UW) - Madison, USA. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas. She completed a surgical internship and a diagnostic radiology residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, and a thoracic imaging fellowship at UW-Madison, WI, in 2016. She is certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology.
Dr. Martin’s areas of clinical expertise include interstitial lung diseases, thoracic malignancies, lung cancer screening, and education at all levels of the health care system. She serves as co-Director and faculty of the American College of Radiology's High Resolution Chest CT course. She has or currently serves in multiple national committees including the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Appropriateness Criteria Expert Panel on Thoracic Imaging, ACR’s Appropriateness Criteria Subcommittee on Patient Engagement, Society of Thoracic Radiology Education Committee, Association for Academic Radiologists International Relations Committee, and RSNA Chest Educational Exhibits Awards Committee. Dr. Martin received the Rising Star Leadership Award from the University of Wisconsin Health System in 2020.
At UW, Dr. Martin serves on the Radiology Resident Education and Selection Committees. She is part of the first cohort of trained faculty mentors and a facilitator for BEAM, an evidence-based, culturally responsive mentorship program for medical students developed at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She regularly collaborates with UW’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and finds mentoring future healthcare professionals very rewarding. She also loves lecturing at local, national, and international meetings about diffuse lung diseases and thoracic radiology pitfalls, which combines three of her favorite things: thoracic radiology, teaching, and traveling.
