Pilot Program to Obtain Pre-Injury Data from NCAA Team Members Participating in a TBI Measurement Protocol

The PI of this project was: Andrew L Alexander, PhD

This project was funded by: Radiology RD

The term of this project was: August 2016 to June 2020

The number of subjects scanned during this project was: 50

We propose to obtain pre-injury or off-season MRI scans from a cohort of student athletes who are
participating in the NCAA/DoD sponsored Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) study that is currently ongoing at UW-Madison. We hypothesize that these additional scans will increase the sensitivity of the post-injury scans to detect brain changes related to the TBI, which in turn will lead to better informed choices regarding return-to-play decisions.
