The campus visit of National Institutes of Health Director Monica Bertagnolli on May 31, 2024 provided the university an opportunity to showcase cutting-edge work, such as advances in cancer treatments and bringing research into primary care settings. In addition to a fireside chat with Chancellor Jennifer L. Mnookin, Bertagnolli met with researchers, including Elizabeth Burnside, MD; Steve Cho, MD; and Amy Fowler, MD, PhD from the department.

Two key focuses of the visit were biohealth innovation and translational research. This included highlights of the newly launched Initiative for Theranostics and Particle Therapy (ITPT), which Jamey Weichert, PhD serves as co-director of, as well as UW’s Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, which Dr. Burnside serves as co-executive director of.
