The University of Wisconsin Department of Radiology proudly announces the following faculty promotions and appointments.
Tyler Bradshaw, PhD – Promoted to Associate Professor (CHS)
A member of the Section of Imaging Sciences, Section of Clinical Imaging Physics and Section of Informatics, Tyler Bradshaw, PhD obtained a PhD in medical physics from the University of Wisconsin in 2016. Dr. Bradshaw’s research focuses on applications of artificial intelligence in medical imaging, particularly PET and nuclear medicine imaging. In addition to Dr. Bradshaw’s research, he is the director of clinical nuclear medicine physics, overseeing the quality assurance program, dosimetry and physics support for PET and Nuclear Medicine at UW Hospitals and Clinics and the Wisconsin Institute of Medical Research (WIMR).
Richard Bruce, MD – Promoted to Professor (CHS)
Chief of the Section of Informatics and member of the Section of Neuroradiology, Richard Bruce, MD earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Bruce completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. His work focuses on the clinical integration of AI across clinical workflows. As vice chair of informatics, he leads the department in improving data and workflow integration across multiple partner systems.
Laura Eisenmenger, MD – Promoted to Associate Professor (tenured)
A member of the Section of Neuroradiology, Laura Eisenmenger, MD earned her medical degree at Ohio State University College of Medicine, graduating magna cum laude. She completed her diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Utah, and her fellowship at the University of California San Francisco where she was chief fellow. Dr. Eisenmenger serves as the associate chief of MRI and medical director of imaging services for WIMR.
Prashant Nagpal, MD – Promoted to Professor (CHS)
Chief of the Section of Cardiovascular Imaging and a member of the Section of Thoracic Imaging, Prashant Nagpal, MD completed medical school and his radiology residency at the University of Delhi, India. After moving to the U.S., he completed a radiology residency at the University of Iowa, and his cardiovascular imaging fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Nagpal’s specialties include cardiac magnetic resonance, imaging of structural heart disease and aortic imaging.
Anand Narayan, MD, PhD – Promoted to Professor (CHS)
A member of the Section of Breast Imaging & Intervention, Anand Narayan, MD, PhD completed his dual degree at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (MD) and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health (PhD, clinical epidemiology). Dr. Narayan completed his radiology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and his breast imaging fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Narayan’s interests focus on equity, diversity and inclusion, with a particular focus on reducing breast cancer disparities through early detection and diagnosis. He serves as the inaugural vice chair of equity in the Department of Radiology, and is an associate director for health disparities at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.
Matthew Niemeyer, MD – Appointed Associate Professor (CHS)
A member of the Section of Interventional Radiology, Matthew Niemeyer, MD obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Michigan, followed by his internship at St. Joseph Mercy in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He finished his training in Chicago with a vascular and interventional radiology fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Dr. Niemeyer’s professional interests include interventional oncology, portal hypertension and large animal modal translational research.
Matthew Shore, MD – Promoted to Clinical Associate Professor (CT)
A member of the Section of Pediatric Radiology and Community Division, Matthew Shore, MD obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his internship at the University of Chicago. He completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Shore’s career interests are general pediatric chest and abdominal imaging.
Tim Szczykutowicz, PhD – Promoted to Professor (CHS)
A member of the Section of Imaging Sciences, Section of Clinical Imaging Physics and Section of Informatics, Tim Szczykutowicz, PhD earned his master’s degree and PhD in medical physics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. After completing his dissertation work, Dr. Szczykutowicz spent a year as a doctoral fellow and imaging physics resident with the UW–Madison Department of Medical Physics before joining the Department of Radiology. Dr. Szczykutowicz specializes in CT, including reconstruction algorithms and technologist workflows. He is also the author of The CT Handbook: Optimizing Protocols for Today’s Feature-Rich Scanners.
Alisa Walz-Flannigan, PhD – Appointed Associate Professor (CHS)
The inaugural chief of the Section of Clinical Imaging Physics and member of the Section of Informatics, Alisa Walz-Flannigan, PhD also serves as the Imaging Physics Residency program director in the Department of Medical Physics. She earned her doctorate in applied physics from the University of Michigan and completed her fellowship in medical physics at The Johns Hopkins University. After her residency in diagnostic medical physics at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Dr. Walz-Flannigan remained with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester as a consultant medical physicist. Prior to joining the University of Wisconsin faculty, Dr. Walz-Flannigan served as the section head of Medical Physics and Radiation Safety for the Marshfield Clinic Health System. She is an active member of the AAPM and a dedicated advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion.
