UW Department of Radiology performs first histotripsy-based ablation by a radiology department in the U.S.
A UW Department of Radiology team of interventional radiologists, led by Erica Knavel Koepsel, MD, performed the first clinical histotripsy-based ablation in Wisconsin since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the procedure. Performed on January 11, 2024, it was also the first completed by a radiology department in the United States.

Greg Avey, MD has been selected as a 2024 program participant for UW Health’s Physician Leadership Development Program (PLDP). Dr. Avey joins 26 of his peers in this year’s cohort.

Radiology’s Diversity Committee welcomes HOPE pathway coordinators
The UW Department of Radiology’s Diversity Committee held its kick-off meeting on November 15, 2023, for faculty and staff interested in improving the field’s workforce diversity, addressing patient health outcomes, and engaging in other diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The meeting featured guests from the Health Occupations and Professions Exploration (HOPE) Program.

In recognition of his extraordinary service to the field of cardiovascular magnetic resonance, David Bluemke, MD, PhD received the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance’s (SCMR) highest honor, the Gold Medal Award, at the group’s annual conference.

Radiology faculty honored at Group on Women in Medicine and Science Symposium
The Department of Radiology had a strong presence at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health’s (SMPH) Chapter of the Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) symposium this past November, with Jessica Robbins, MD and Elizabeth Burnside, MD receiving awards and Pallavi Tiwari, PhD serving on a panel.
