A UW Department of Radiology team of interventional radiologists, led by Erica Knavel Koepsel, MD, performed the first clinical histotripsy-based ablation in Wisconsin since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the procedure. Performed on January 11, 2024, it was also the first completed by a radiology department in the United States.

The UW Department of Radiology’s Diversity Committee held its kick-off meeting on November 15, 2023, for faculty and staff interested in improving the field’s workforce diversity, addressing patient health outcomes, and engaging in other diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The meeting featured guests from the Health Occupations and Professions Exploration (HOPE) Program.

In July 2023, Tyler Prout, MD was appointed as the vice chair of quality and safety in the Department of Radiology. While Dr. Prout has a history of prioritizing quality and safety in the department – he’s served as the associate vice chair since 2017 – his interest in the subject goes back to before he became a radiologist.
